MY DYING BRIDE - ‘The Barghest O’ Whitby’ – New EP coming November 7th

September 6 2011

Following the release of ‘Evinta’ earlier this year, in which the band marked 20 years of existence with a release of symphonic compositions re-imagining past MDB themes, the UK legends of doom now present their latest chapter in the form of new EP ‘The Barghest O’ Whitby’, to be released 7th November on Peaceville Records on CD & limited vinyl. This single track, 25 minute epic represents the epitome of poetic grace & funeral soundscapes from one of gothic doom’s most celebrated acts. With a masterful blend of pounding guitar riffs, & sombre atmospheric passages, My Dying Bride takes you on a chilling journey through superstition and folklore that will leave you simply spellbound.

As the band explains the origin of the idea:
“Carrying straight on from the success of ‘Evinta’ found us kind of out of breath for a second, we were already aware of a new-found love of all things bleak and grey and were eager to start writing in a more traditional My Dying Bride style. What did catch us off guard was the increased heaviness and the fresh approach to song writing. Moving away somewhat with the lyrical theme from our usual feeding ground, we found ourselves on the rainy moors of Yorkshire contemplating the story of the Barghest; a supernatural entity hell bent on revenge. The tale now to be told wove itself into a 25minute epic which initially we thought would be a 3 part EP, but it simply became one very long song full of everything My Dying Bride and more. The violins conjure lonely tears atop a chasm of epic British doom.

‘The Barghest O’ Whitby’ was recorded at Futureworks Studios, Manchester with long-time production partner & engineer, Mags. The release is the first to feature violin/keyboardist Shaun Macgowan, & sees the return of Shaun “Winter“ Taylor Steels to the drum-stool for this recording. The cover artwork for ‘The Barghest O’ Whitby’ also appears courtesy of vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe.

“We’ve never been heavier or more cataclysmically connected to doom metal as a state of mind, it’s no longer just a musical style to us” – MY DYING BRIDE.

3 Part EP Due For Release Later In The Year

July 30 2011

“My Dying Bride are back in the studio to record a 3 part EP due for release later in the year. No titles revealed just yet but the news is that it is to be a concept EP of effectively one track of over 25 minutes long split into 3 Acts.
Recording is to take place at Futureworks Studio’s in late August with long term sound engineer Mags once again taking the pain.

The new l.p. is being delayed as the band are simply not ready to record this yet as “things are progressing in a very interesting manner”.

This release is to be a precursor of things to come.”

To commemorate two decades of doom and gloom from My Dying Bride, the band embarked upon a special project to re-work familiar melodies and themes from their extensive catalogue into long, flowing symphonic compositions, incorporating new vocals and passages from Aaron Stainthorpe. Sharing vocals is professional opera singer Lucie Roche, a talented soprano from France.

These arrangements have been brought to life in co-operation with keyboard maestro Johnny Maudling (of Bal Sagoth fame) as well as a clutch of talented classical musicians and will be released on May 30th as 'Evinta', as a 2 disc set & also a deluxe 3-disc edition with 64 page book, inspired by My Dying Bride's illustrious recordings of the past two decades.

A deluxe edition (3 Discs) including 64 page 12” hard-back book and additional disc of Evinta recordings (Evinta 3)
A 2-CD* limited edition, in a digibook format with 24 page booklet for independent retailers

"Evinta. A project almost 15 years in the making. An idea that has sat smoldering and never really had a reason to burn alive until now. 9 albums worth of darkness recreated anew to mark 20 years of MDB. Music arranged to the soundscapes of sorrows past. Finally the 20th anniversary allows us to release this music in a form it has been desperately, woefully waiting for. Enjoy the Darkness."

These arrangements have been brought to life in co-operation with keyboard maestro Johnny Maudling (of Bal Sagoth fame) & will be released as 'Evinta', as both a 2 disc & special 3 disc set, each disc its own sprawling classical work spanning a large period of My Dying Bride's album material. Ronnie James Dio

May 16 2010

May we take this opportunity to express our sadness at the death of Ronnie James Dio and our condolences to his family & friends. We toured with him and his band back in 1996 throughout the US where he treated us with a great deal of respect, which we shall never forget. This is a sad time for all who knew and loved him and Rock has lost one of it’s great endearing characters.

Cheers from us all

Bring Me Victory EP Finished

August 27 2009

Bring Me Victory Video Still My Dying Bride have completed the recording of the new EP "Bring Me Victory". The track list is as follows:

Bring Me Victory Video Still A new video will complement the release which will hopefully be around late October.

'Scarborough Fair' is a traditional English folk song without specific origin but was made popular by Simon and Garfunkel in 1966. My Dying Bride's version will feature two new introductory verses written by Aaron and will naturally feature the bands usual epic style with violins and crushing guitars. 'Failure' was originally written by Swans and has been a favourite within the MDB camp for many years; it was only a matter of time before the band made their own version of this especially miserable number.

New EP in the Making

August 10 2009

My Dying Bride have been busy in the Future Works studio, recording material for a new EP release, titled Bring Me Victory. Two covers, one of the traditional 'Scarborough Fair' and a cover of 'Failure' by the Swans, will be part of this new EP. A new video has been completed as well to support the release.

An October release date has been pencilled in but this may be put back a little depending on how the last days of recording go!

More as we get it.

MDB and Matamp Guitar Amplifiers

July 3 2009

Matamp We are proud to announce a new partnership between My Dying Bride and the legendary UK guitar amplification company Matamp. The imminent European tour shall be powered by a couple of custom, hand-built, valve guitar amplifiers played by Andrew and Hamish. After visiting the showroom of Matamp headquarters, Hamish reported, "these amps are so inspiring, and the build quality is such that the amps are as heavy as the riffs we play! Pity the backs of our techs! We look forward to using them on tour, and also in the studio in the future!"

Line Up Change

June 9 2009

This announcement just in:

Katie is no longer taking part in My Dying Bride. After confirming to play all of the shows we presently have booked she decided she did not want to do them, stating the reason being as "I want to concentrate on my career". She is presently a part time psychology student. So make of that what you will.

The kind chap who came in to replace her is called Shaun Macgowan. He has been rehearsing with us for no time at all and has shown great commitment already. He will not be being classed as a full time member until he has passed his probationary period with us, which is now 30 years. If you would like to welcome Shaun in the only way MDB fans can, that would be a great test of his character. And by 'the only way' I mean to complain that he is not Martin. For ever.

The band overall are saddened by the line up change, we think more for you than us. But as anyone who saw the show at the Wave Gotik in Leipzig will confirm, we have lost nothing.
